Overcast

Salut!

Thank goodness it's Friday! I have been so busy with school lately I haven't had much time to keep up on the outfit posts, but finally after one of my classes was cancelled, I had the chance. Today the weather was very gray, dreary and overcast...my outfit perfectly fit the mood.

Work It Out

Salut!

Work out clothes like spandex and sweatpants used to be items for the gym, but now are becoming the new spring/summer trend. Because it is still so cold here...it's almost March..I have been dreaming/searching for the perfect items to add to my spring wardrobe. As I was browsing through the new spring trends and spring runway shows..I noticed a trend that looks like it might become the new "summer leggings"...cycling shorts! Usually the only place you see these is on cyclists, but many designers, like Michael Kors, House of Holland, and Louise Goldin incorporated them into their spring collections..and I have to say that I think I really like it. They would go perfectly under t-shirts, especially the patterned ones! Topshop has some great different prints and they also have a couple pairs imitating jean shorts and American Apparel also has a variety of colors..from neon to metallic. Another upcoming trend that I am taking a liking to are sweatpants/shorts. I love how Alexander Wang paired these with his infamous slouchy cutout sweater and those amazing ankle booties. The Topshop collection also put a new spin on sweatpants by pairing them with trench coats and lace up boots. I love the combination of the casual, everyday item with something more striking and over the top.

Hockey and Heels

Salut!

So, last night my friends and I decided to go to the Illini hockey game..it was our first one! It was very exciting..they won!! I decided to wear jean shorts with tights and my gold heeled ankle boots...well let me just say..I got some crazy looks! But, hey I wasn't going sacrifice my style just because we were going to a sporting event! Here are some pics...they're pretty funny/silly. Some are candid..me "hive fiving" over the game..others are me posing with the peace sign..of course.

Patchwork

Salut!

I felt inspired to make a post related to a discussion I had in one of my art classes. Although it did turn controversial, debating whether this trend would be accepted into the common world of fashion, this new, oddly captivating accessory is apparently all the craze, or at least is about to be. On the rise is the unexpected, yet definitely striking eyepatch. It first appeared in the House of Holland runway show with Agyness Deyn donning a plaid one. Then it was used in an editorial spread in W magazine, as well as additional images streaming from other various magazine. Even Rihanna was photographed working this trend. Although I prefer the more abstract, jeweled and crystaled style, it is sure to leave many people on the fence. Although some might find it bizarre or outlandish, it does represent the risks that are involved in fashion. Taking something commonly put to use, whether it be distantly related to fashion or not, and connecting it back to fashion by reinventing it can create quite the fashion statement. Using unique and unlikely items is what keeps us stylistas on our toes for every new runway show. It keeps the mystery involved and the anticipation of what trends are to come next; for we never know what exactly designers are going to be inspired by that season. So, remember that fashion is sometimes worth the risks. Even though sometimes their may be failed attempts, those risks keep interest and make fashion that much more exciting. So, what do you think? Will you be donning the eyepatch anytime soon or, perhaps, it's just not your kind of fad?

NY Fashion Week

Salut!

A few favorites from fashion week so far...

PhotobucketPhotobucketPhotobucketPhotobucket

Charlotte Ronson...I love the use of black leather, cut outs and sheer...not to mention the spiked knee high boots!

PhotobucketPhotobucketPhotobucketPhotobucket

Preen...I absolutely love the first dress...the leather with the cut outs-obsessed! Preen always creates the perfect combination of cut outs and sheer fabric! I am also digging this fur coat..the tweed mixed with the fur...an amazing winter jacket!

PhotobucketPhotobucketPhotobucketPhotobucketPhotobucket

And of course..Alexander Wang. I adore him..everything about his collections are perfect...the effortless grunge-chic look of mixing of black and white leather, over sized shirts, shredded dresses and leggings...obsession. I really like the white leather jacket with the fur down one arm..a little different take on the black leather jackets that have taken the fashion world by storm. I also am really inspired by this one shouldered over sized collared shirt...and not to mention how it looks with the model's shoulder tattoo. Just perfection.

Super Size Me

Salut!

While taking some time out of my day to flip through the Nylon magazine that I had purchased weeks ago, I came upon this brand that specializes in giant-sized rings based on patterns and elements found in nature. After going to their website and seeing their collection, I was in love! I have been dying to find a large scale gold or silver ring and I think these might be the ones. They're beautifully crafted, and better yet, economically friendly. Using recycled metals and factories that don't release pollutants, as well as donating 10% of every purchase to Petra's Happy Hearts Fund, they definitely have taken the time to put thought and care into their line. Their organic shapes and attention-grabbing size make them even more coveted. How much more fashion-forward can you get? So, as my Obsession du Jour, be sure to check out October Anniversary's website!

p.s. - I know it has been a while since I myself have posted pictures of my outfits, however it's hard to do when your camera is lost. Luckily though, I just found it stashed away in my pile of purses and am in search of someone to take pics in the near future. Hopefully all goes well!

Arts and Crafts

Salut!

As sof and I have repeatedly mentioned, studs are just one of those things we can't get enough of.
Lately, I've been obsessing over studs on sneakers, like the converse below. While looking at freepeople.com, I found the perfect pair! Along with some other one-of-a-kind shoes and THE to-die-for combat boots (like sof's DIY combat boots), it's definitely studs galore! I just can't seem to resist my urges to go out and get myself some. However, the price tag is the one thing holding me back. So I'm hoping in investing some of my time and customizing a pair of my own. I guess we'll just have to wait and see how these "obsession du jour" turn out!

blazer- Forever21 (on sale for $10!), shirt- Urban Outfitters, shorts- Wet Seal, boots- Chinese Laundry, necklace- Forever 21, bracelets- found them lying around my house

Today was even more beautiful than yesterday..I was so excited! This warm weather I'm sure is just a tease..with the Midwest you never know..it'll probably be back down to 30 degrees tomorrow. I titled this post 1970 because today when I was walking to class, some man stopped me and told me I looked like I was from the '70's. I'm not sure if I really agree with him....but I thought it was pretty funny. These pictures were quickly taken in between classes by my very funny boyfriend/photographer. He said something that made me laugh and caught it in action...he thought it was cute so I decided to put it up...
