Patchwork

Salut!

I felt inspired to make a post related to a discussion I had in one of my art classes. Although it did turn controversial, debating whether this trend would be accepted into the common world of fashion, this new, oddly captivating accessory is apparently all the craze, or at least is about to be. On the rise is the unexpected, yet definitely striking eyepatch. It first appeared in the House of Holland runway show with Agyness Deyn donning a plaid one. Then it was used in an editorial spread in W magazine, as well as additional images streaming from other various magazine. Even Rihanna was photographed working this trend. Although I prefer the more abstract, jeweled and crystaled style, it is sure to leave many people on the fence. Although some might find it bizarre or outlandish, it does represent the risks that are involved in fashion. Taking something commonly put to use, whether it be distantly related to fashion or not, and connecting it back to fashion by reinventing it can create quite the fashion statement. Using unique and unlikely items is what keeps us stylistas on our toes for every new runway show. It keeps the mystery involved and the anticipation of what trends are to come next; for we never know what exactly designers are going to be inspired by that season. So, remember that fashion is sometimes worth the risks. Even though sometimes their may be failed attempts, those risks keep interest and make fashion that much more exciting. So, what do you think? Will you be donning the eyepatch anytime soon or, perhaps, it's just not your kind of fad?

I think it would annoy me having an eye covered in the name of fashion!
