Inspiration du Mois

Salut!

Each month we like to focus on something that catches our eye, inspires us, and sparks our passion. This influence can come from a range of different things; from the world around us, like the environment, to another designer's work, or even something as simple as a color or pattern. We each like to create collages of our different inspirations; this month Sofie was moved by the idea of the city that never sleeps, New York. While Emma was moved by the upcoming trend of cutouts.

New York has always been one of my absolute favorite places, so I thought why not use this electric city as my fashion muse? The clean lines of buildings, the sharp points, the glamorous, as well as the grunge lifestyle illustrate New York's captivating verve. All these elements fuse together to exude a masculine, yet sexy, sleek style. With the exciting vivacity of New York in mind, I found various articles of clothing and shoes that illustrated the eclectic elements of this sleepless city. I also thought a few designers, like Givenchy and Balmain captured the essence of New York in their 2009 spring runway show. I loved their use of a constant theme of black, acid wash jeans, over sized blazers, leather, and sequins/jewels/studs. Let's just say I'm in a New York state of mind.

My inspiration for this month was the ever-exciting cutout. The reason cutouts inspire me is because of the versatility that they have. The possibilities are endless, while the different designs are completely captivating and intriguing. The simple openings ooze boldness and self-confidence with a sense of mystique. The idea that something so simple can create a dramatic impact on not only fashion, but on the portrayal of the woman wearing that trend, is absolutely inspiring. Below is a collage of the cutouts that sparked my attention and got me hoping for a shopping spree in the near future; it's time to break out those savings.
